About the Event

In 2023, we plan to bring together in person Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, & Venturers and again Unite for Earth Day at the Orono Nature Center for Education and Conservation.

The 2023 Earth Day Theme announced by the Earth Day Network will for the second year be "Invest in Our Planet".

- Unite for Earth Day 2023 will be held at the Orono Nature Center & Learning Pavilion, (Behind Orono Intermediate & Elementary Schools), 685 N. Old Crystal Bay Road, Long Lake, MN.  Check-in/out at the Pavilion.  Please park in actual parking areas and respect the "No Parking" signs on the road.

- This is a come when you can and stay however long you would like between 2:30 and 8 pm.  Some groups will choose to come together at a designated time.  Please provide appropriate supervision for your scouts/children.  Our event is open to scouts, family, and friends.

- Please dress appropriately for the weather and to work.  Work gloves are recommended.  Please bring a filled water bottle and optional snack for yourself.

- For Education we will be offering some easy activities to  learn about Gratitude.  Cabot Craemery’s Gratitude Patch focuses on the importance of expressing gratitude in both what one says and through one’s actions.  The activities will help kids to focus on, and appreciate, the good things and special people in their lives.  Each objective will keep kids engaged while they earn their FREE patch.

1. What does gratitude mean?

2. What are you grateful for?

3. Express your gratitude.

4. Keep the gratitude going

Volunteering is a great way to teach gratitude. In general,  people who volunteer are more compassionate and feel a sense of  community.

 - For Conservation it will be our annual clean-up at the Orono Nature Center.  Various activities will be designated with areas in need of clean-up.  One popular activity of pulling Buckthorn will be back as an option using the Wood Weed Wrenches.

  • Boy Scouts are able to use the time spent for Conservation or Service hours needed for advancement and badges.
  • Girl Scouts are able to use the time spent for badge requirements when appropriate.
  • Cadette/Senior/Ambassador Girl Scouts may use the hours toward Service to Community Bars.
  • Everyone gets to feel the satisfaction of doing good and making a difference.

- Supporters: If you would like to help run a station and/or are part of  business/organization that would like to contribute there support to our event, please contact our event organizer at uniteforearthday@gmail.com.
